Day 14: Redwood National & State Parks

Today we started out at 8:30a yet again by driving up to the Lady Bird Johnson Loop Trail that has the dedication plaque for the grove named in honor of Lady Bird Johnson by Richard Nixon from 1969. It was a cool trail and we noticed there were a lot of big redwoods with one little redwood immediately next to it - hopefully the picture will be more descriptive. Then back on the road and north via the Newton B. Drury Parkway where there was a meadow that had a few elk grazing - they were all sitting so low in the grasses, that we couldn't really get a good photo, but we could see a few sets of antlers. Our next hike was in Jedidiah Smith Redwood State Park where we drove out Howland Hill road to do the quick Stout Grove trail before letting Dude go fast on the Boy Scout Tree Trail while the rest of us just did a little out and back on the trail to pass the time while he did the full 5.3 miles. And just like that our redwood hiking was done and it was time to get back on the 101 and go to Oregon. We're in Coos Bay for the night before heading to the Berry Family's beach house.Day 14 Photos
